Sep 6th. It is time to leave the city behind for a while as I am heading to a Log cabin near Algonquin Park for some canoeing, hiking and generally getting away from it all. The place I am staying has no electricity and offers a nice comfy, rustic experience. The train ride up from Toronto is my first experience of the Railways here and it really isn't a good one - The train has to stop several times to let freight trains go by (why oh why aren't there 2 tracks for each direction) so I end up arriving 1 1/2 hours later than I should. I have to jump over the track to get to the 'platform' where I get picked up by a cab who takes me out to the cabin itself. I get a tour around the cabin and it all looks pretty cool - Propane lamps, A hand pump in the kitchen to get water and also a sauna and a dock where the canoes come and go on the lake next to the cabin. I am actually a day early for my trip which starts the next day but it has cost me no extra and I meet up with another group that is there already and then we relax in the afternoon and then are served with a great Steak for dinner. Bedtime is quite early as we are getting up early (6am) in the morning to try and find some moose (hopefully).
