Seeing as I am staying at the jail, it would be rude not to do the tour and learn about the history of the place (and it is a pretty grisly history at that). We go around and view the Punishment cells where the naughty naughty prisoners would get sent - basically a tiny room with no light. Usually they only had to be in here for 1 day but one prisoner was in for 6 months. Pretty nasty stuff. Lots of prisoners died during their stay mainly due to disease or exposure to the elements. This place also had the last execution seen in Canada in the 1940's. We had a look at death row where the inmates spent their final days and also saw the gallows (The only working one remaining in Canada). It is quite a spooky place and we tread the 'Dead Man Walking' route from death row to the noose. Also we get to step out under where the people were hung. We are told that when a bridge was being built next to the prison - hundreds of unidentified bones were found and there are lots more suspected of being under the car park (it was only tarmac'ed over, not dug up). No ghosts showed up during the trip although you can do a ghost tour of the town which comes to the prison and you learn different stories.
