The 'Hunt' for Penguins - Oamaru

Apr 20th. We leave Mount Cook village reasonably early for the drive down to Dunedin. Along the way there are a couple of places to stop and maybe the chance to see some wildlife. Our first port of call is the little town of Oamaru where we drive off to the Penguin Colony. We have seen quite a few penguins in our travels and forget that during the day they are out at sea fishing. We do catch some Fur seals basking on the rocks but that is about it. The only penguins sited are the ones on this road sign and also a large cuddly toy one in the Penguin colony informatino centre.
