The Tale of the Australian Sugar Cane Toad

Before I forget, here is a lesson on why you need to do some better research before introducing a new species to do a job for you. Sugar is one of various states major industries in Oz but the farmers were having lots of problems with Sugar Cane beetles. A similar problem was solved in Central America by introducing the Sugar Cane Toad - the beetles were swiftly eradicated and crops improved. The Cane toads were introduced in Oz but the results were not good - Then one bright spark realised that the Australian Sugar Cane Beetle can fly unlike its Central American cousin. Oh well, it isn't the first time there has been a mishap with an introduced species in Oz.
