Canyon de Chelly

Jul 5th. I am reluctant to leave the trains behind in Flagstaff but it is time to press on in my trip - I am heading up towards Utah where I will be visiting lots of national parks. On the way up I stop in Chinle which is in the Navajo reservation in Arizona. Here is a very special place for these people, the Canyon de Chelly (pronounced Shea because Spanish people couldn't say Ts apparently). I go on a 3 odd hour trip into the Canyon and check out some of the ruins of the old inhabitants and check out the interesting scenery. There are some cool pictograms and petraglyphs dating from a long time ago as well as ruins of houses built way up into the rocks. Also there is a Navajo hideout where thousands hid during times when they were persecuted by the government. After the trip I carry on up to Bluff passing some spectacular scenery on the way.
