Road Trip
Jun 3rd. It is thankfully time to leave the sprawling mess that is LA behind and head off for a bit of a marathon journey to Flagstaff in Arizon. This will be my base for visiting the Grand Canyon. I started off pretty early and followed some directions that I got off the internet which started off well but I realised something was very wrong when I seemed to be getting nearer to San Diego. I already was looking at a 470 mile/7:30 hour journey but doing an extra 100 mile 'scenic' detour wasn't really needed. After righting myself (and buying a road atlas) I headed east on I40 and into the desert. Some of the scenery was pretty spectacular on the way - particularly by Needles and Kingman. Unfortunately it is impossible to stop and take some pics and time was pressing. Anyhow, After 570 miles and 9 odd hours I reached Flagstaff - The temperature in the desert peaked at 118 degrees F which should make hiking in the Grand Canyon good fun tomorrow.
