I begin the hike in sunshine through a sparse pine tree grove that runs along the Kings River into the Canyon. The walls of the canyon tower over the land on either side and are spectacular. The forest gets thicker and the path meanders along the river offering nice views along the rapids as I go. Towards the end the path gets quite steep as I head up to the falls themselves. There are lots of squirrels along the way and some birds and insects (yes I got bitten). I finally reach the falls after about an hour and a half and they are worth the effort. The view looking back down the canyon from this point are cool. I have lunch by the falls and then make my way back to the car park. It has been a really good hike and well worth the effort. I start the drive back to leave the park when. . . .
