Universal Studios

Jul 2nd. After picking up my real Rental car and trying to get comfortable in driving on the wrong side of the road (might take a while), I head a couple of miles up the road to Universal City where the Studios/Theme Park are located. I think that it would be rude to not go to 1 theme park whilst in America so I think I will get it out of the way early doors. The place is absolutely heaving with people and is quite expensive to get in (over 30 quid). I take the Studios tour which doesn't inspire to begin with as we are driven around the outside of warehouses. We then head into the backlot and see actual sets from places and then there is the obligatory explosions/water/smoke/earthquake effects in various locations. One cool spot is a scene from War of the Worlds which features a 747 which crashed into a residential place. I also saw the set for that crap program set on Wisteria Avenue (Lane?/Road?). In the rest of the theme park there were rides, Special effects demos. The best one was Shrek 4-D, this featured moving chairs, water and air to involve you in the action as well as the 3D vision. The donkey kept sneezing which meant that you got a mist of water over you. This did get me once when they had some spiders which looked like they fell in front of you and then it felt like something was crawling up your legs (sorry - I hate spiders). After all that I was theme parked out so I drove back to base and it is time to get ready for my long drive to Flagstaff tomorrow where I will base myself to visit the Grand Canyon.
