Aug 16th. After seeing the slightly dubious area around the Calgary hostel the previous day, I pick up a car and head into the Rockies to Banff. This only takes a couple of hours and the anticipation builds as I travel across the prairies and the mountains get ever closer. The town has a bit of rustic charm and is extremely touristy. I head up to the Banff Gondola straight away and climb up to 2200 metres to the top of Sulphur mountain. This offers 360 panoramic views of the area and is pretty sweet. The day is really nice but a bit hazy but you can still see quite a long way. I am accompanied by some small birds when I eat my packed lunch which is sightly annoying but after walking to a lookout I head back down and into Banff village to get some supplies, get some info on hiking trails and check in to the hostel - it is pretty sweet as well.Pictures (Left) - View of the back of the valley, (Right) - View of Banff Village and lake Minniewanka (stop giggling)
