Broken Island Group Kayaking

Aug 7th. I get up early and head out to the kayak centre and get geared up. The first leg of the trip is a boat transfer over to the Broken Island group and we spot 2 whales along the way which includes a spectacular lunge grab where the whale scares fish using sound up to the surface and then risies vertically taking a huge gulp of fish when it surfaces. Awesome sight. Also spotted are some steller Sealions. After getting dropped off we get into our kayaks and start paddling around the islands - the broken island group is made up of over 100 islands but offers good shelter from the pacific ocean. The scenery is stunning despite the weather being overcast and we get a good 5 hours of paddling in during the day. Along the way we have a stop for a gourmet bagel lunch and a history lesson about the groups past and the wars between the first nations. We see lots of animals, hundreds of sea stars, bald eagles, kingfishers - No sea otters though which I was disappointed about. After getting picked up we head back and see another couple of whales doing their lunge feeding thing and also a black bear having a forage on one of the beaches. All in all a fantastic day.
