Banff NP - Cory Pass Loop Hike

Aug 17th. I get kitted out ready for my day hike today. The bear spray is within reaching distance if the need arises and my whistle is ready to announce my presence to any big furry dudes in the vicinity. It does increase your awareness and makes the day a bit more exciting not knowing whether you will run into a bear or bot. I nearly send myself deaf with the first toot of my whistle - it is so loud - after that I put my fingers over my ears - This thing can be heard 1 mile away apparently. The hike is a 13km loop and ascends nearly 1km to the Cory Pass. Most of this uphill work is done in the first couple of km so it is hard going and the terrain is rough. The peaks surrounding the trail are pretty spectacular and there aren't too many people hiking despite the lovely weather. I make it up to the pass itself and the trail turns into a more rocky one as I am above the treeline. At least I can see further away so nothing will sneak up on me.
