Whistler

Aug 14th. I pick up yet another rental car and drive north out of Vancouver and head to Whistler. This is where the 2010 winter olympics are being held. This is apparent early on as the highway that runs from Vancouver to Whistler is undergoing a major upgrade so it is slow going at times. I enter Whistler Village itself and after having a rather nice Chicken and Cranberry sandwhich I head up the gondola to do some hiking and take in the views at the top of Whistler Mountain. The main gondola takes you up to an initial stage but there is a chair lift which drops you at the top of the mountain. This is a bit scary and not for people scared of heights (thats me). I am only glad that I am not going back down it as I am hiking instead. The views from the tops are cool - nice views into the valley and the alpine landscape is pretty stunning.
