Abel Tasman Kayak Trip - Day 2

May 13th. We get going at about 10, no rush as we have to wait for the tide to be able to get back. We paddle out through the section known as the mad mile (This is marked as a danger zone in our map - cue singing of the song from Top Gun). Conditions are perfect again, slight breeze but blue skies and not a cloud in sight. We paddle over to Adele Island and see a frollicking seal in the sea, We coast up to him and he is having a scratch and a wash in the water - it is cool just to idle by and see what is going on - we try and not disturb him though. We have our picnic lunch there and suddenly have some sea gulls for friends, I am tempted to throw one a ginger nut biscuit for comedy value but in the end don't. We cruise on down to another beach and see lots of various fishing birds on the way, then we have a few fun and games with the tide but get back to base safely at 15:00. Then it is the drive back to Nelson for some rest and it is time for a hearty meal tonight.
