May 3rd. The day starts out cloudy but we have seen the weather forecast and it is meant to clear in the afternoon. There are a few walks to do around Wanaka and despite it being cloudy and not being able to see the top of the mountain we head off in anticipation that the cloud will disperse later on. The walk is pretty hard and an uphill slog - Roys Peak is 1598metres above sea level so it is quite a climb. We cross over several pastures of farmers land so there are a lot of woolly dudes around (and woolly dude sh!t). I reach the summit after about 2 hrs 20 worth of slog - I come close to turning around and going back down due to the clouds but I see a patch of blue sky and see the summit so I carry on. The view from the top is cool but still there is a lot of cloud - on a clear day I would be able to see Roy's glacier in the other valley. Pity. The cloud does clear a little on the Wanaka side so the views are cool. Pictures (Left) - Wanaka from the Summit, (Right) - View of the Summit from the bottom - taken on way down as I could see it then!
