Franz Josef Glacier

We arrive where we are staying (Franz Josef Glacier Village) but we have enough time to check out the glacier. Again, it is in a retreating phase like Fox glacier but the valley it has carved is impressive and you can see the tree line where is has surged in the past. We are going to climb up the glacier as well on Sunday. We shall be walking along the gravel to the Terminal face and then up some steps carved into it - we are spending a full day on the ice which should be lots of fun. I have saturday to recover first which is cool as I have got a cold and also am shattered from driving 400km today.
