Marlborough Sounds

May 15. After a relaxing morning, we head out in a boat for a cruise around the Marlborough sounds. We originally wanted to do a dolphin watching trip but they only had 2 people (us) wanting to go - they apparently were expecting someone to ring in the morning to confirm from a voicemail the day before (but that was us as well I think). Anyway we are heading out on a water taxi which will also try and track down some animals for us. The weather is lovely today as well - blue skies and calm. We see quite a few fur seals including some trying to break in to the local salmon farm, then we strike aquatic gold - a large pod of dusky dolphins appears and swims around the boat which is cool. I take lots of pics but it is more a case of pointing and hoping you get a good shot. Anyway it was cool to see lots of them. We also see lots of fishing birds in action as well. The Sounds are cool - but not in the same league as Doubtful/Milford. Anyway it is back to base for our evenings Apple crumble. Sweet (Literally). Picture - Zoom in to see the Dusky Dolphin - pesky things to get good shots of.
