A day in Wellington

May 17th. It is a free day in Wellington today so we wander around and check out the Government buildings. There is the Beehive, The Government House and also the National Library that lie next door to each other. We arrive just in time to do a guided tour which is really interesting and we get to see inside the debating house where all the action takes place in NZ parliament. It is also budget day in NZ today so this place will be a tad busy later on. Couldn't find any of the PMs doodles to check out. (Find info on Doodlegate!). After the tour we head to Te Papa (My Place) which is the national museum/interactive centre. Some exhibits are quite good, some rubbish. After lunch we head to the Karori Wildlife Sanctuary and have a wander around here - It is a predator free area 2km from the city and contains lots of bird life, We see some Kaka's, Tui's and a Weka which had gotten through the Weka Fence. There also is an old goldmine entrance that you could walk down and see some Cave Weta's. I nearly blundered into all of them which would of been comic. They can jump a couple of metres. The day is nearly over so it is off for a slap up meal at a Maori restaurant.
